Sustainability in Government
About sustainability in government
The activities of the public sector can make a significant contribution to the sustainability of our economies, communities and environments.
The public sector impacts upon sustainability through:
- policy development
- programme implementation
- regulation and legislation
- operational activities
By considering all relevant aspects of sustainability when making decisions about policies, programmes, regulation or operational activities, Australian Government Departments and agencies can improve efficiencies, reduce waste and contribute to a better quality of life.
The Sustainability in Government programme is supported by the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA).
